Hannah sleds with no fear at the park near our house.

Eve turns 3!

Last year.......

This year........

In her defense, she blew out the candles as soon as Derek lit them and started laughing. She doesn't like anyone to laugh at her, so she started crying hysterically.

Chuck E Cheese is so gross to me, but the children love it! She enjoyed all of her presents despite her tantrum with the candle incident. Aren't you glad you missed this special occasion?

We have power!

After a night of flickering, a cold house, and a full day of cutting trees; we finally have power. It was one of the worst ice storms that they have ever had in the area with over 200,000 residents witout power.

Holdiay letter writer's block

Seriously...please tell me if anyone is going through this? I've been staring at a blank word document for four days straight. ....sigh Do people really care about the 15 trips that we go on every year? Do they care about your children's milestones? People want funny. I've got nothing for you. I think I am going to send out a piece of holiday paper with..............

garrettsfamilyaffair.blogspot.com

It's everything you need to know. Then maybe I can dodge the ones who make fun of my Christmas letter. (You know who you are) What do you think?

I don't know why?

I'm just saying... Why is there two slide shows playing? I have no idea. It's because I have computer skills of a second grader.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Princess power

Derek and I finished painting Hannah's bedroom this morning. The name of the paint is "Princess Power" I'm thinking Pepto Bismol? It's not quite finished. I've yet to hang everything back on the walls. This is just a sneak peak. Does it give you heart burn?

Hannah started basketball three weeks ago. She plays every Saturday until the middle of March. They've yet to receive their uniforms; so for now its soccer clothes.

This piece of artwork that she painted was recognized by her art teacher who entered it into a special art show. I thought it was a hidden turkey in a basket of fruit!?!

Let me just show you a potential WNBA star. I think her shooting the ball straight up into the air is priceless. (She is the youngest on the team) Can you say, "travel much"? She's just learning right? I yelled, "just pick up the ball and run with it". "Why dribble, no one else does!"

Tagged

I was tagged by Amanda so here goes.....

Go to your fourth picture folder and then go to the fourth picture in the folder. Write four things about the picture and then tag four other people. It's amazing what you'll find!!!

1. This picture is taken at Hannah's 7th birthday. I took all the girls to see "Horton Hears a Who" and then back at my house for cake and ice cream.

2. My mom was here for Hannah's birthday which was really special.

3. I'm never taking 7 kids to the movies again.

4. Hannah's still really good friends with two of the girls in this picture.

I'm now tagging the Popecks, Lizzard, Fotops, and Betsy......

Deacon Derek

After church today we went to a furniture store and I couldn't resist the photo op.

Derek was installed as a deacon today by the elders. I tried so hard to videotape, but Ben and Eve were on both sides of me tugging at my arms so you only get to see a 2 second clip. Sorry mom and dad!

Back together again

I just dropped Sarah off at the airport. She has been at my house for a week. We had a great time shopping, shopping, and some more shopping. I miss having a girlfriend to do that with and actually will get excited with you for a great find.

The weather was ridiculous. It was cold, cloudy, and raining everyday. Welcome to the Northeast in November. We both caught ourselves a nasty cold. It didn't ruin our time though, we just gossiped over Thera-flu and cough drops. We even got carded for the Thera-flu. Just like old times!

We drove to NYC yesterday for some more shopping. When we got back to the train station where I had parked, we realized that all the birds in NYC got together and decided to have a bowel movement in unison over the MV. We laughed for a good 10 miles! Pretty gross.

The kids showed me

We carved pumpkins last night. I asked the kids what they wanted to carve. I told them that I was going to do a Nittany Lion on a white pumpkin. I did not do Penn State any justice, so I changed the lion into a bat. The kids had something else in mind. Hannah decided she would carve the cross into her pumpkin.

Ben told me he wanted to make a Christian pumpkin. I said what does a Christian pumpkin look like? He said that it had hearts for its eyes, a cross for his nose, and the Christian fish for its mouth.

The kids showed me.

Snow in October?

It really started coming down yesterday and didn't stop until after we went to bed. Thank goodness the snow didn't stick. We woke up with a couple of patches on the lawn. I quickly checked the weather to see what the forecast for Friday would be. I believe we are in the clear. I was having flashbacks to my childhood of trick-or-treating in a foot of snow with my moon boots. It was so tiring.

Go Nittany Lions!

We put Eve in her Penn State outfit for church this morning to rub in the win against Ohio State fans! We have a lot of Buckeyes in our congregations. Sorry guys!

Moms gone wild

My sister flew in on Friday night to Newark, NJ where we got a hotel and spent Friday and Saturday in the city. We had a great time. Jodi has never been to the city so we managed to hit all the tourist attractions in 2 days. She is going to email me a couple of pictures today or tomorrow since I forgot my memory chip in my camera. We had a blast. Two moms with three kids hit the streets of NYC without diapers, sippy cups, or gold fish in our purse. We had great weather and great conversation. We called are trip "Moms' gone wild"! I wouldn't say we were wild, but a trip to anywhere without kids is special.

I love Fall!

I have completely given up on this particular video, but let me brag for a moment about it. I have Eve reciting all of the books of the Old Testament. I guess it was a little too long for blogger. I will keep trying. I know that everybody loves Fall, but why can't we have it around for longer?

Having problems

I'm having serious problems right now with uploading videos. I've left it uploading for 2 hours and it still won't. Anybody know how to fix it?
Okay- nobody laugh at me. My computer training comes from grade school on the old Apple computers playing "word munch", "number munch", and "Oregon Trail"!

bedtime at the Garretts

Missing the South

What did you think of the debate last night? I thought McCain rocked it personally! Hannah came home off the bus yesterday and said "Obama for President" I choked on my coffee; "what did you say"? I told her that McCain needs to be our next president and the reasons why! The things she hears in school is ridiculous. Another little tid bit from the past -
She came home from kindergarten one day and was chanting, "The Mets stuck" "The Mets stuck". Of course she meant suck but didn't know what the word meant. Hannah said that they chanted on the bus all the way home from school. I guess the bus driver must of been a Yankees fan. Oh- I miss Birmingham sometimes.

Oh yeah- I'm a new auntie as of last evening. Liz had a baby boy yesterday (Jacob Myles Garrett) Congratulations David and Liz!!!

64 years!!

I talked with my grandparents last night for about an hour. They just had they're 64th anniversary on September 25th. Can you believe that? I asked grandpa what he did for grandma and he said that he opened a can of apricots for her and started laughing. Grandpa still drives around although he says it is getting harder b/c of his macro degeneration in his eye. Grandma talks a lot about dad when he was a boy and how glad she is that he was saved. She was pretty funny last night too b/c she was doing a colon prep for a colonoscopy this morning. About every 15 minutes she would say, "got to go poop!"

When you grow up, you wonder; what it's going to be like when I can drive? And then when you are driving you wonder, what is it going to be like when I get married? When you get married you are curious about what it 's like to have a child and so forth? Grandpa asked me last night if I had watched a lot of people die? I said yes and he said if I thought it would be painful. I got off the phone and couldn't stop thinking about it.

Mo's wedding

We drove to Memphis on Thursday night to meet up with everybody. Festivities started on Friday with pedicures for the girls, golf for the boys, and the rehersal at 3:00 in the afternoon. Friday night we went to Tunica and I think we look pretty good at the wedding considering!

Mo and Jeremy were high school sweethearts who reunited later on. How sweet!

Sarah did a great job singing, but I cut her off short cause I wasn't the videographer (if you can tell). She use to sing me to sleep at Harding, so a few bars of her sweet voice was worth the embarassment.

Gabe Matthew

Derek and I just got back from Nashville yesterday. We had a wedding in Memphis, but stopped in Nashville and stayed with Uncle Bob and Aunt Donna. We swung over to Whitehouse to see sweet baby Gabe Matthew Griffin who was only 8 days old!! I wanted to bring him home, but Derek said no.

New York Apples

We live within 10 minutes of about 6 different apple orchards. New York has the best apples! I took the kids yesterday with one of my neighbors and her children for some apple picking. We are going to be busy making some apple pies today!!! I also went to open house yesterday to meet Hannah's teacher. I don't know why but I don't like it when the teacher is younger than me. It makes me feel like I'm really the old mom of three sitting for open house! Anyways, Hannah's desk was neat (surprising I know!) and her teacher seems like a gem. I can't believe I have a second grader. Seriously, where does the time go?

Back from our travels!

We had a blast in Minnesota! It is so hard to be away from family and friends. The kids and I spent 14 days up there and Derek flew up for Labor Day weekend. We did a lot of fishing and Ben and Hannah tried water skiing for the first time. (Ben got up, but was dragged in a seated position around the lake!) The kids also did some tubing and spent time swimming at the beach. (too cold for mom). Speaking of mom; she is doing well and keeping busy with the church. I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer! Time to get back into a routine.

Trip to Minnesota

I just figured out how to add the slide show if you are wondering why I posted it again!! We are all doing great in Minnesota. The kids and I are up at my mom's house in Northern Minnesota. (It gets down to the 40s at night!!) We spent a week in Minneapolis with my brother and sister and will be at my mom's for the remainder of our vacation. The kids have become excellent little fisherman. I will post pictures when I get home and catch up on everything. Hope everyone is enjoying the rest of their summer!
